MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An all-time culture high now exists for the Miami Hurricanes, especially after a big win yesterday (Sept. 9) against No. 23 ranked Texas A&M.
Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo can second that after his career-high 126 yards helped to make a huge impact on the Canes 48-33 win.
“We’re so unselfish and that’s a big part of, you know, being successful is just being super unselfish,” Restrepo exclaimed. “At the end of the day, winning is the best feeling.”
Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson was able to showcase quarterback Tyler Van Dyke’s passing this game. Van Dyke went 21-for-30, 374 yards, and five touchdowns against the Aggies huge intimidating defensive line.
TVD owes it all to his offensive linemen for his performance.
“It was the entire offensive line. They protected me all day, gave me so much time to throw, receivers did a great job getting open and catching the ball,” TVD added.
Last week the running back group put points on the board for Miami. This week it was all receivers versus the Aggies defense.
Isaiah Horton (52-yard touchdown catch), Colbie Young (six catches, 75 yards, touchdown) and Jacolby George (five catches, 94 yards, three touchdowns) made huge contributions to the Canes receiving corps in production against the Aggies.
Although the offense executed well, Texas A&M (1-1) capitalized off of Miami’s mistakes early. A muffed punt put Texas A&M at the 5-yard line and into the end zone, leading the game for the majority of the first half.
Texas A&M’s new quarterback Conner Weigman went 31-for-53 for 336 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
One of those interceptions were from Canes team leader and defensive back Kamren Kinchens. While his play was a major highlight for the Canes, Kinchens went down late in the fourth quarter and did not get up for many minutes.
The Canes sideline was devastated watching their leader just lieon the ground. Thankfully, Kinchens was carted off and airlifted to an hospital.
Reports came back that Kinchens is doing well, as this was a scary moment for the Canes.
Miami (2-0) was able to finish the game strong with the 15-point win over Texas A&M.
Head coach Mario Cristobal was ecstatic as he walking through the tunnels after the huge win, but he understands that this is just the beginning for the Canes.
“We are nowhere near where we want to be, but today was a big step in the direction we want to go and just extremely proud of everyone in that locker room,” Cristobal stated.
Miami looks to continue its winning streak against HBCU Bethune-Cookman (1-1) on Thursday, Sept. 14 at Hard Rock Stadium. The kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on the ACC Network.
