EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. – The fans were out bright and early at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center Monday morning as the Giants entered their fifth day of open training camp runs.
Some players took the chance to stand out, while others stayed in the back of the pack. Here’s our takeaways from attending practice today.
Keep the Ball on the Ground
Most of the Giants offensive plays were focused on the ground and when it went to the air it was mostly slants and check downs. The running back room looked very solid and competitive, Devin Singletary looked promising in the reps he had gotten today but the competition among the running backs is a lot closer than people would think it would be. Eric Gray, Tyrone Tracy and Dante Miller all had solid outings and made very strong cases to be RB2 heading into opening week.
Dane Belton… Starting Safety?
Dane Belton has been turning heads all camp with his performances, today was no different. Belton continuous ball-hawking activities help propel him into a potential situation where he could end up stealing the starting strong or free safety spot, Belton is definitely a name to keep an eye out for as we get closer to the regular season.
Brian Burns is Absolutely Terrifying
As if the Giants already had a problem with Kayvon Thibideoux who is looking to break the single season sack record this year, getting Brain Burns might just be one of the best moves made by any team all off-season. Despite getting hurt at practice today and playing on limited reps, Burns went all in on every rep he did play and caused trouble, especially for Tackle Andrew Thomas.

DeVito Vs. Lock – Who Will be QB2?
Both players impressed today as they both took turns sharing the time under center during second team reps. DeVito also took reps with the third team as well giving him more overall time today under center. Neither player looked to be under pressure to succeed, in fact they were seen talking to each other a lot during practice and seeming to learn from each other by watching each others reps carefully. This will be a battle that will likely go down to the final week of the preseason.
Receiver Competition is Tight
While the Giants appear to have figured out who their core four receivers will be heading into the season, the competition is looking very tight to see who can grab the final few roster spots. I liked the performances from Isaiah Hodgins, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and Allen Robinson II. All three of these guys definitely can make great cases for making the final roster in September.
Can Daniel Jones Keep This Form?
The 40 Million Dollar man looked good in the reps that he was given today, of course, Giants fans would love him to keep this form especially on a contract year and coming off an ACL injury. Considering that this was the year that the Giants could’ve gotten away with drafting a quarterback, they stayed faithful to the man they picked to take the mantle from Eli Manning.
