SEBASTIAN RIVER – This past Friday (Sept. 1), the Sebastian River Sharks had their first home game against Astronaut.

The Sharks won by a score of 44-0, beating last year’s final score of 42-0.

Plays were made from every side of the ball.

Offensive threats Tromance Smith, Xavier “Buddha” James, Marcus Grier, and Jonathan “JT” Tumblin found their way into the end zone that night.

The defense was in go mode against Astronaut, holding them to zero points the entire night. Linebacker trio Jonathan Tumblin, Brenden Sposoto, and Michael Howard were key players in this game, alongside offensive lineman/defensive lineman Christopher Wheat, defensive back Xavier Marshall, and Eric Johnson.

Is this a new Sebastian River?

OFFENSE

This year on Sebastian River’s offensive side of the ball has been a show.

James (‘25 RB) and Smith (‘24 WR) have been key players to the Sharks offense this season, with them also helping secure the 15-7 win over South Fork on Thursday night (Sept. 7). Both guys were seen in the end zone with two electrifying plays.

Not only does Sebastian have those two studs, but their whole offense is electrifying with the quarterback duo Colton McMann (‘26) and  Chris Evens (‘26), along with Marcus Grier (‘24 WR/DB) and Christopher Wheat (‘24 OL/DL).

I can expect to see more electrifying plays from all of these guys this season.

DEFENSE

Sebastian River’s defense has always been slept on, with star players such as Tumblin (‘24 LB), Sposato (‘24 LB), and Michael Howard (‘25 LB). This head hunting trio has shown that they are one of the better sets of linebackers on the Treasure Coast, making plays left and right and helping the Sharks secure the wins against Astronaut and South Fork these past two weeks.

But just like their offense, they also have more terrifying players to watch out for this season. Xavier Marshall (‘25 DB), Johnson (‘26), Wheat (‘24), and Jefferson Charles (‘24 DB) are also key players to the defensive side of the ball, giving Sebastian River opponents something to worry about.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The special teams is a key component in today’s football game, and Sebastian River has the guys for it: Kickers Ryan Marshall (‘26) and Matthew Campbell (‘24), along with Xavier Marshall (‘24 DB/P), are all guys on the Sharks special teams who show up when needed the most.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Head coach Tyrone Perry and the Sharks team are coming with a different energy and trying to set the tone as soon as possible.

“The goal is to win the state championship,” Perry said.

How the Sharks are preforming right now, I believe they could shock the world by getting it done.
