Mr. Excitement: WR DeAngelo Pompey finds motivation to ball out

WELLINGTON – DeAngelo Pompey gives his all on every play.

It shows on offense, defense, and special teams. It even shows before and after the plays he is a part of.

This is why voters have selected the Palm Beach Central incoming senior wide receiver as the most exciting player in his class.

Pompey is not called Mr. Excitement for nothing.

“It feels great,” the 5-foot-10, 160-pound wideout said. “I always give the people in the stance something good to watch.”

Pompey finished his junior season with 48 catches for 716 yards and 8 touchdowns on offense. He added 2 interception returns for touchdowns on defense, to go along with 4 punt returns for touchdowns on special teams.

With that kind of production, it is easy to see how and why Pompey is the most exciting player to watch in Palm Beach County.

Pompey’s best moment was in Week 10 against Palm Beach Gardens, when he caught a pick-six in the final minutes of Palm Beach Central’s 28-14 win to seal the District 10-8A title.

But for the area’s most electrifying player, he said he best game was in Week 2, when he caught two touchdown passes from former Palm Beach Central quarterback Anarjahe Douriet in a 47-18 road win over Dwyer.

Pompey reflected on his junior season at Palm Beach Central.

“My favorite moment was getting through the season with a positive record,” Pompey said of Palm Beach Central, which finished the season with a 9-3 record and a berth in the Class 8A-Region 3 semifinals. “I wish we could’ve went further.”

The offseason has been a surprisingly quiet one for Pompey. At this time, he has no college scholarship offers or interest that we know of.

“I had a great junior year,” Pompey said. “I feel kind of slept on, but there’s nothing I can do but go even harder and be patient.”

Through it all, Broncos head coach Scottie Littles has been a big help to Pompey’s overall development as a player.

“He’s a great coach,” Pompey said. “I know he’s doing whatever he can to get me looked at. But I know he can only do so much.”

And through it all, Pompey will keep his spirits up in a positive way and continue to give his all. He has a motivational reason to do so, which is driven by the fact he wants to make his mother Tina Folger proud.

In his upcoming senior season, Pompey (No. 2-ranked wide receiver; No. 23 overall player in Palm Beach County) wants to improve on his offensive production across the board. He wants his mother to witness it all.

“I just try to ball out so I can make it somewhere for her,” Pompey said.

That is all the motivation a player and a son needs.
