WELLINGTON – Communication is everything when it comes to the execution of a task at hand.

Glades Central senior defensive back Jacob Camacho has been great at this in more ways than one. With a series of standout games under his belt, it was time for him to elevate and reach another level.

It happened this past weekend (Oct. 30) in Glades Central’s season opener against Palm Beach Central, when our MVP of Week 1 recorded seven tackles and two interceptions, one of which went for a touchdown in his team’s 41-0 win.

“As a captain this year, I just did my job and tried to put my team in the best position,” Camacho said. “It all starts in practice and then it transfers to the game.”

One of Camacho’s best plays came late in the second quarter, when Palm Beach Central was on the verge of getting on the scoreboard.

Up 14-0 at that point and facing a fourth-and-goal from the Glades Central 1–yard line, Camacho made a timely tackle to prevent the opposition from reaching the end zone and force a turnover on downs.

“Jacob is a leader and a flat-out playmaker,” Glades Central head coach Rashad Jackson said. “I’ll tell any coach he’s the best safety in Palm Beach County. He can hit and tackle. He’s a ballhawk and just makes plays. If you throw the ball his way, he’s going to catch it and go all the way.”

Speaking of which, Camacho’s interception return for a score came on an 80-yarder to the end zone with 4:42 left in the third quarter. This preceded an extra point made by senior kicker Jose Garcia, who teamed up with Camacho to give Glades Central a 34-0 lead at that point.

“Jacob is very smart at safety,” Glades Central senior cornerback Kevontey Fowler said. “He is very good at reading coverages and he catches on quick. He performed great with his two picks and his one to the crib.”

Fowler spoke on Camacho’s impact on him as a team leader, a close friend, and as a person overall.

“He pushes me,” Fowler said of Camacho. “He motivates me when I feel lazy. He’s just very smart and consistent. I love that about him.”

What will Camacho do in Week 2 against Royal Palm Beach?

We will see tomorrow night (Saturday, Nov. 7; 7 p.m. kickoff) at Wellington High School.
