DELRAY BEACH – In what was a win-or-go-home situation last Friday night (Nov. 12), Nick Workman made the most of his opportunity.

The Glades Central junior running back had 15 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in his team’s 34-20 road playoff win over American Heritage (Delray Beach).

Workman’s two scores on the ground came in the first half, as the Raiders (6-5) jumped out to an early 12-0 lead over the Stallions (5-5 final record). Both end zone appearances happened on short runs.

This was enough for Workman to edge out a strong field of contenders for our MVP of Week 12.

“Me and my line practiced good,” Workman said. “I can say about them they been practicing good throughout the week. They handled their assignments and blocked well and opened the holes I was looking for. That got me to having a great game.”

Glades Central senior team leader Robert Harris spoke highly of Workman’s effort from last week.

“He’s a very hard worker and runs the ball like it’s his last,” Harris said. “It showed in this game. He’s been playing well the back stretch of this season.”

NOTES: Workman has had three other standout performances as a junior. They came against Monsignor Pace (Miami), Carol City (Miami), and Vero Beach, three of Glades Central’s toughest opponents in the regular season.

Workman had 14 carries for 205 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against Monsignor Pace.

With that said, Workman is expecting to have his best game yet tonight (Nov. 19; 7:30 p.m. kickoff) on the road for No. 5 seed Glades Central against No. 1 seed Lakewood (8-2) in the Class 4A – Region 3 semifinals.

We will see how it goes for Workman and the Glades Central Raiders.
