BOCA RATON – Benjamin Laurore was not going to be denied.

The St. John Paul II sophomore athlete has a level of determination and grit that is infectious. It showed in his season debut performance on Friday night (Sept. 18) against Berean Christian in a 45-0 win at home.

Statistics tell part of the story, but sometimes a player’s impact on a game cannot be measured in numbers. This is how Laurore will stand out among his peers in this game.

Laurore recorded 4 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception against Berean Christian. But it was his energy and level of football intelligence that sparked the Eagles defense in their 45-point shutout over the Bulldogs.

All of this contributed to Laurore being selected as our MVP of Week 2.

“It’s an honor. It really is,” said Laurore, who also completed a 10-yard pass at the quarterback position against Berean Christian.

“It was my first week at SJP, and I’m already doing big things,” Laurore continued. “All thanks to my head coach, Coach [Kelcey] Brooks. Love that man.”

Laurore made sure to credit his entire team for his MVP of Week 2 honor.

“My teammates, I couldn’t have done it without them,” Laurore said. “It was a team effort. I couldn’t have played the way I played without them.”

Laurore gave credit to others for being able to play the game he loves.

“I wanna thank God and my parents for giving me this opportunity also,” Laurore said.

The next opportunity for Laurore and the St. John Paul II Eagles (1-0) will be on Friday night, when they go on the road to take on the Westminster Academy Lions (1-1) in Fort Lauderdale.

The kickoff for St. John Paul’s Week 3 game is set for 6:30 p.m.
