PALM BEACH GARDENS – In two regular season games, Santino Marucci has been lights out at the quarterback position.
In two games, Marucci’s eye-opening performances have come exclusively in the first half of action.
The junior three-star team leader has led No. 2 Benjamin to a 2-0 start, with blowout wins over Glades Day (44-0 road victory in Week 1) and LaSalle (40-0 home triumph in Week 3).
Translation: The Buccaneers have outscored their two opponents by a combined score of 84-0.
Marucci has been so good on the field, he’s had to sit out the second half of both games.
Here are Marucci’s stats from Week 1 against Glades Day:
•11-17 for 230 yards with three passing touchdowns and one interception; two carries for 16 yards and one rushing touchdown
Here are Marucci’s stats against LaSalle in Week 3:
•6-10 for 170 yards with two passing touchdowns; four carries for 54 yards and four rushing touchdowns (all by midway in the second quarter)
In two games, Marucci is 18-27 passing for 400 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. The 6-1, 195-pound quarterback has added six carries for 70 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Total it up, and it comes to 470 total yards and 10 total touchdowns in just two halves of play.
For a player to get six touchdowns in less than two full quarters, it takes a combination of sheer talent and more. Marucci has that in spades at the quarterback position.
We would love to see more Marucci in action. This will come as early as tonight’s Week 4 tilt at Pine Crest (1-1; 7 pm kickoff time).
We’re expecting a huge season from Marucci, and he’s already on his way to claiming his stake as the No. 1 overall all-class player in Palm Beach County.
Congratulations to Santino Marucci for being our MVP of Week 3.
