DELRAY BEACH – All it took was one play to break the game wide open last week for American Heritage (Delray Beach).

It came from junior running back Trey Rainey, who bursted through the Cardinal Newman defense for a touchdown run of 70+ yards in the first half of his team’s 19-0 win. This occurred at the 4:38 mark of the second quarter, which actually turned out to be the game’s final score.

For the game, our MVP of Week 8 finished with 16 carries for 142 yards and one touchdown.

“I was reading my linemen and I found the smallest gap,” Rainey said. “I hit it and I ran it through.”

Stallions sophomore quarterback Dylan Rizk was happy with what he saw from Rainey against the Crusaders.

“Trey did a great job at running back,” Rizk said. “He put us in great position to win the game.”

Stallions head coach Nick Martinez provided a further analysis on Rainey’s performance in the 19-point win over the Crusaders on Oct. 30.

“He played well,” Martinez said. “Trey does so much for us at the running back position. Besides just running the ball, he’s so smart in pass pro and has solid hands in the pass game.”

More Martinez on Rainey:

“On the touchdown, we made a quick sideline adjustment,” Martinez said. “And for him to receive the adjustment and the next drive implement it and score the long touchdown, it shows his entire package of intelligence, patience, and speed to finish.”
