HOUSTON – Dusty May has been one of college basketball’s best coaches this season.

Hence, the FAU Owls deep March Madness run is one of the best stories in the nation; from being an average team in C-USA to being in the Final Four for the first time in program history.

The hard work has paid off as May has been named CBS Sports National Coach of the Year.

Even better, May is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Owls. This will ensure that the team in Boca Raton looks very similar next year and will have the same success or even better.

May has obviously proven that he is an elite coach that can turn a college basketball program around in a snap of a finger. He has led the Owls to a program-best 35-3 record that included a 20-game winning streak and multiple appearances in the AP Top 25 national rankings poll.

Therefore, there were a ton of rumors regarding the fact that May would leave for a big-time program that offered a ton of money. However, FAU fans do not have to worry as the program confirmed Thursday (March 30) that it has reached a long-term deal with May.

The Owls will no longer be in Conference USA next season as the program is moving to the AAC. They can expect tougher competition, but nothing should change the program’s dynamic, especially if everyone stays put and does not transfer.

Saint Peters never replicated its run in 2022 because everyone switched schools including Doug Edert and head coach Shaheen Holloway. However, FAU does not want to be a one-year wonder.

FAU wants to make a deep March Madness run year after year, and it starts with May staying put, which will be guaranteed under his new long-term contract.

Contract details are yet to be finalized, but expect a lot of well-deserved money to be handed to the Final Four head coach.

As far as the program goes, FAU will receive a ton of money from March Madness distribution. As long as the Owls stay in their budget, expect improved facilities and renovations to The Burrow, FAU’s home arena.
