National Signing Day: American Heritage, Atlantic highlight action

PALM BEACH COUNTY – In our area, it was two Delray Beach-based teams that stole the spotlight yesterday (Feb. 3).

Between American Heritage (Delray Beach) and Atlantic High School, four football student-athletes signed National Letter of Intents with FBS Group of Five programs, including three who will remain in the state of Florida.

American-Heritage kicked the day off with four total signees, as defensive back Bobby Salla headlined the group when he signed with Temple University.

Along with Salla, Earl Miller signed his NLI with South Dakota, Matthew Hall chose Bowdoin College and Nathanial Levi Johnson chose Lake Erie College.

Atlantic High School saw 10 football players ink their names on the dotted line, with the headlines coming from a pair of FAU signees in cornerbacks Jahbari Hill and Jeremiah McClendon, as well as UCF signee and defensive tackle Zyin Thomas.

In addition to that, award-winning quarterback Alexis Guenson (Lou Groza Player of the Year, Sun-Sentinel Large Schools Offensive Player of the Year, and New Era Prep 561 Public MVP of the Year) signed with Wagner University later on in the day.

Atlantic offensive lineman Christian Thomas signed with Tennessee Tech, while athlete Montahj Joseph and linebacker Antoine Williams decided to be college football teammates at New Mexico Military.

Also for the Eagles, athlete Tyler Burke signed with Tusculum, while defensive backs Jabari Christie and Jaylin Hunter chose Keiser.

Christie and Hunter were just two of many student-athletes in Palm Beach County who signed with Keiser.

In total, the Seahawks signed 12 players from the county, including Glades Central defensive back Jacob Camacho, Benjamin defensive end Joey Schmidt, Dwyer duo Wyatt Brooks (long snapper), and Chance Gagnon (kicker/punter).

Likewise, St. Thomas University saw eight players sign from Palm Beach County. Six of those signees hail from Glades Central, which saw a county-high 11 players sign their letters of intent.

Alongside the six from Glades Central, Somerset Academy’s Julien Amaya and Spanish River’s Derrelle Allen also signed with the NAIA program in Miami.

Those, however, were not the only high schools who had their Senior athletes signing with colleges and universities.

Boca Raton saw offensive lineman Tyler Alexander sign with Keiser, as did Boynton Beach’s Dave Rene, John I. Leonard’s Jordan Jean, Palm Beach Gardens lineman Tanyan Robinson, and Seminole Ridge lineman Yosbany Gonzalez.

At Palm Beach Lakes, two of its student-athletes signed NLIs with Southwest Minnesota State. Those were offensive lineman Jairo Hernandez and defensive back Obj Lightbourne, who both committed to the university in January.

Finally, we have Palm Beach Lakes cornerback Winsome Frazier, who signed with FAMU last night.
