PALM BEACH COUNTY – Although a majority of Palm Beach County’s seniors committed during Wednesday’s (Feb. 5) National Signing Day, it was American Heritage Delray cornerback Jamal Potts who headlined the class.
Potts, alongside four other football players who signed to various other colleges, announced his commitment to Florida International University.
Potts finished the season ranked at No. 5 in New Era Prep’s Top 100 and held offers from Utah State, Florida Atlantic and Charlotte before signing to FIU.
Following the signing, Potts said he was “in paradise” and stated the location as the reason he stayed local.
Signing alongside Potts was Zachary Bohannon (Midwestern State), Andison Coby (Northeast Mississippi CC), Hayden Giers (Seton Hill) and Molinsky Desire (East Central).
“It’s always been a dream of mine to sit on that stage and sign away the papers to go wherever I’ll go for the next four years,” Bohannon said about signing.
Elsewhere in Palm Beach County, Cardinal Newman running back Chris D’Or and defensive lineman Chris Kaczwara signed their letters of intent to Slippery Rock.
Following the event, D’Or called the ability to sign with his teammate “a blessing.”
“For the next four years, I’ll be with someone that I trust and I know,” D’Or said. “Someone for when times get hard, I can lean on.”
D’Or finished the season ranked at No. 4 in New Era Prep’s Top 100 rankings, making him the highest-ranked running back.
D’Or, who might not have gotten as many offers as someone of his caliber should have earned, said he was concerned about the potential under recruitment.
“The schools that didn’t take their shot, they’ll see me in the future,” D’Or said. “I don’t have much to prove. Just play my game, and I think I’ll be fine.”
While D’Or and Potts may have headlined the class, it was Keiser’s and St. Thomas’ collective success in the area that turned heads.
St. Thomas secured the signatures for quarterback Jadiel Cruz (John I. Leonard), running back Allan Israel (West Boca) and defensive back Cedric Williamson (Palm Beach Central) to headline the Palm Beach County part of their recruiting.
Locally, Keiser was able to secure the likes of Jordan Cash (Atlantic), Connor Hone (Jupiter Christian), and Verwayne Alexander (Boynton Beach) to a class that was dominated by Palm Beach County players.
