ORLANDO, FLA – Football season is finally here, and with it comes New Era Prep’s coverage debut in Orlando as live coverage will be provided from Timber Creek vs Colonial. The matchup will bring coverage to a new group of teams in an area that’s got tons of talent.
With both programs looking to start the season on the right foot, Friday night’s meeting sets the stage for an exciting early-season matchup as the two head coaches enter into their second and third seasons.
Timber Creek, coming off of a 4-6 year under HC Reggie Cox, played against some of the top Central Florida teams, including Jones, who lost to American Heritage Plantation in the state title, as well as Boone and Winter Park, who consistently see playoff action. This season, they see a fairly familiar schedule, as in past seasons, with an interesting matchup at Apopka on October 16th. The last time the Wolves took on Apopka in 2016, they spoiled the No. 1 Darter’s undefeated season in the first round of the playoffs in a 40-39 classic of a game.
“Just win every rep,” Coach Cox quoted at Central Florida Media Day in July as he emphasized that focusing on themselves as a team and getting better will give them the opportunity to compete and win games.
Colonial has seen a bit of daylight in the past few years, and recently made the move to independent to provide them with a slate of games that are all winnable. The game the Grenadiers have to have circled on their schedule is the “boot” game vs University. In the past 3 years Colonial has gotten one win over the Cougars, in games that have all been decided by one possession.
Coach Austin Rocheleau noted that his players have been persistent in showing up and not complaining with all of the moving pieces this summer. “Any time any place we’re willing to put in the work”, he noted
Historically, this game has been a district matchup up until this season. In 20 games since 2004, Timber Creek has won all 20, most recently 41-6 in the game that took place last year. This year, we see two teams gaining traction in their new era.
This Kickoff Classic game will take place this Friday, August 14th at Timber Creek High School, with kickoff slated for 7pm.
