New Era Prep Top 50: New No. 1 in Class of 2021

NEP Team

PALM BEACH COUNTY – We have expanded our player rankings for the Class of 2021.

In what looks to be a deep talent pool from this collective group, we did not want to wait any longer to highlight more athletes from our area. We made some additional changes to this list, which means it will look quite different from the previous iteration of our rankings from last month (May 28).

With that said, we watched plenty of film, talked to coaches from our area, and looked at the offers that our players currently have.

From this Top 50 compilation, we also factored in the departure of cornerback Tyler Gaskin, our former No. 1 overall player who recently transferred from American Heritage (Delray Beach) to Deerfield Beach. This automatically means we will have a new No. 1 in Palm Beach County.

It came down to defensive ends Earl Miller (previous No. 2; 17 offers) and Ashton Gillotte (previous No. 3; Louisville verbal commit).

NEW PLAYER AT NO. 1

After watching film of both Miller and Gillotte more closely, we went with a clear choice.

At the top of the list, Boca Raton defensive end Ashton Gillotte highlights the major movements. Although Gillotte was third on our last update, a few transfers, along with his own talent, pushed him to No. 1.

Holding a three-star rating by 247Sports Composite, Gillotte is currently ranked as the No. 65 weakside defensive end in the nation. With at least 14 offers to his name, Gillotte chose to shut his recruiting down before the start of the season, committing to Louisville in May.

“A whole host of reasons,” Gillotte told New Era Prep in May about his commitment. “Location, the coaching staff, education…I got a good vibe and it felt natural. I didn’t feel like it was forced.”

In 2019, Gillotte finished with 82 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and even forced three fumbles. On tape, it showed a player with similar talents across the board.

Simply put, whenever Gillotte is on the field, he is due to make a major play.

In 2020, Gillotte will be expected to make more of those plays on the field. His impact to the Boca Raton defense is immeasurable and when he is on the field, the Bobcats defense may be hard to stop.

With Gillotte’s two-spot jump from No. 3 to No. 1, Miller will stay put at No. 2 – for now at least.

Two players crack the Top 5 for the first time: Atlantic defensive tackle Zyin Thomas (7-4; three-spot leap) and American Heritage wide receiver Brandon Schabert (6-5; one-spot up). Meanwhile, Palm Beach Central linebacker Donovan Hoilette returns to the Top 10 (11-10; one-spot upward move).

We have a Top 20 debut as well. The hot shot honoree is Palm Beach Lakes offensive lineman Brandin Luzincourt, who checks in at No. 17.
