No leader emerges yet for DB Antavious Lane

WEST PALM BEACH – Don’t sleep on Antavious Lane.

It’s been easy to do for quite some time, due to the fact that Oxbridge Academy has been a loaded team for the past few seasons. But now that Lane is going into his senior year, his production and talent  will almost certainly be remembered for the foreseeable future.

The 5-9, 170-pound defensive back, who can also play at running back and wide receiver on offense if needed, is essentially a dynamic athlete in more ways than one. Both his game speed on the football field and his football IQ are above average, to say the least.

This has parlayed into 11 current offers – and counting – for Lane, who has most recently picked them up from the likes of FAU, Marshall, Appalachian State, Buffalo, Illinois State, and Georgia State. The others are Louisville, Kentucky, UAB, Toledo, and South Dakota.

Lane spoke on his latest offer, which came this week.

“I was excited to receive an offer from FAU,” he said. “They have a great program, and they are on the rise.”

Despite the recognition he’s getting from college coaches nationwide, Lane wants to take his time and feel the schools out before making a final decision.

“My recruiting process is going great by the grace of God,” he said. “I’m looking to take some visits over the summer.”

Kentucky, Toledo, and Appalachian State are a few schools on Lane’s visit list over the next two months ahead. The itinerary could grow to more schools along the way at anytime.

Lane is simplistic on what he’s looking for in the eventual college of his choice.

“I’m going to go with the school that shows me the most love,” he said. “I want to feel like I’m at home.”

With all that said, Lane played well at home in Oxbridge Academy’s spring football game against Royal Palm Beach on May 17. He scored two touchdowns on offense and caught an interception on defense to help propel the Thunderwolves in a 41-0 shutout win over the Wildcats.

“He’s a great player,” Oxbridge Academy 2019 quarterback Gio Richardson said. “I believe he’s a five-star athlete. People keep sleeping on my man.”

Throughout his high school football career to date at Oxbridge Academy, Lane has five interceptions, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and two defensive interceptions returned for touchdowns. On the offensive side of the ball, he has recorded eight touchdowns and 374 total yards.

Of course, numbers do not tell Lane’s entire story. His heart, determination, athleticism, and desire to be a champion are all out on display when he steps on the field each game.

And for his upcoming senior year, Lane wants to go out on top.

“You can expect me to play both sides of the ball, return punts, and return kickoffs,” he said. “I just got to get in shape this summer so you all can see me do it live.”

NOTE: The New Era Prep team will be closely following Lane’s entire recruiting process and his overall progress from now until the day he officially signs with a college. Stay tuned for further updates.
