PALM BEACH COUNTY – With the threat of Hurricane Dorian looming, many games in Palm Beach County were either rescheduled to Thursday (Aug. 26), rescheduled to a later date, or canceled outright.

As a result, the rankings for Week 2 will remain the same.

No team in our New Era Prep Top 10 moved up or down depending on their win. That, however, does not mean new teams were put right on the bubble, with a chance to reach the top 10.

THE REASON FOR NO MOVEMENT

The decision to keep all the teams in the top 10 at their same position came down to a few factors.

Every team in last week’s top 10 won their game, if they played.

Palm Beach Gardens traveled to John I. Leonard and handled the Lancers, 50-3.

Glades Central, ranked at No. 3, needed overtime to eke our a 27-24 win over a talented Wellington team.

Jupiter’s 27-20 win over Lake Worth is impressive, but that still isn’t enough to push our No. 9-ranked team above the likes Pahokee or Palm Beach Lakes, who did not get to play games.

The same goes for No. 8 American Heritage-Delray, who defeated Coral Springs Charter big in a 42-7 triumph.

If every team won, there should not be a punishment this early in the season.

While some teams moved their games up with the threat of Hurricane Dorian looming, some teams were simply forced to cancel or reschedule their games.

This was the case for No. 1 Atlantic, who was forced to cancel its game against Clearwater Academy International. The same went for No. 2 Benjamin and No. 4 Cardinal Newman, two high-ranking teams that did not play their game between each other this week.

Simply put, there was not enough from last week to move teams up or down.

Without a full slate of games last week, there was not enough to move those teams who could not play down, or those teams who did play up. With the late rescheduling of some games, there is also a chance that some teams were not as fresh early.
