Wellington, FL.- Tonight (May 22) the Ft. Pierce Central Cobras traveled down to Palm Beach County to face off against The King’s Academy Lions.
What was the biggest thing the Cobras brought with them? Explosive offense.
Central’s offense was headlined by a 185 yard, 3 TD day by 2027 QB Drew LaPlante in his first varsity start. LaPlante was on fire tonight, launching deep scores left and right, including two 40+ yard touchdown tosses to Antonio Hill Jr. (40, 43) on the outside and a 63 yard strike to MarQuan Burgess.

While those deep touchdowns were surely quite the show, tonight’s jaw dropping play came on the defensive side of the ball. Just before halftime, TKA appeared to be marching down the field, when the Lions looked for a deep shot on the outside. As the ball was coming down, Central S JaMario Moody leapt in the air and came down with an incredible one handed interception. Moody’s ‘SportsCenter Top 10’ caliber pick would go onto set up the 63 yard slot TD to Burgess moments before the clock expired.

As for TKA, the next era of Lions’ football began tonight, following the graduation of multi season starters like QB Joe Dailey and WR/DB Javian Jones. Freshman QB DJ Beneby took the majority of snaps under center tonight and showed promise. Beneby finished the night with just over 100 yards in the air and a rushing touchdown.
Just like FPC, TKA’s highlight of the night came on the defensive side of the ball, as LB James Powell took an inside-the-ten yardline interception 97 yards the opposite direction for King’s first points of the night. King’s hard hitting LB duo of Levi and Hudson Champion didn’t disappoint, as the brothers combined for over ten tackles alongside some offensive production in the rushing game.
