PALM BEACH GARDENS – Andrew Weisz is on top right now.
The Benjamin junior team leader recently earned our No. 1 positional ranking in the offensive lineman category, while starting out as our No. 3 overall player in Palm Beach County. This is a well-deserved dual honor for Weisz, who is currently listed at 6-foot-6, 305 pounds.
“It’s a truly great feeling to be one of the best players in Palm Beach County,” Weisz said. “I have grinded to get to this point. I am so far from my end goal, but it’s a great feeling right now and I am gonna grind until I’m at that No. 1 spot and beyond.”
Weisz, who is currently rated by Rivals.com as a three-star offensive lineman, is behind only Palm Beach Lakes running back/Rivals.com three-star Antonio Outler (No. 1) and American Heritage cornerback/Rivals four-star Tyler Gaskin (No. 2) as our best players from the Class of 2021.
Because of his measurables and overall production on the field, Weisz has seven offers at this time. They come from the likes of Maryland, Indiana, USF, Brown, Harvard, Cornell, and Dartmouth.
The Buccaneers junior spoke on what he’s looking for in a college.
“I focus primarily on a good education, along with a high-caliber football team as well,” said Weisz, who doesn’t have a leader at this time. “I care about playing at the next level, but also the years when I’m done with football and what I am able to accomplish.”
Weisz had a very good junior season at Benjamin, as he tallied at least 29 pancakes on the offensive line in 12 games played. He helped his team reach the 3A-Region 3 semifinal round, which culminated in a 28-7 road loss to Bishop Verot (Fort Myers).
“We were undefeated going into the American Heritage game, and then we went on a three-game losing streak,” Weisz said. “But then we bounced back, beating rivals Kings (49-14 home win in Week 10). Going into the playoffs, we were confident going into the Newman game. We played our best game against them, and personally I played my best game as well. We came out with the win (33-16 on the road; 3A-Region 3 quarterfinal). Then, we went out to Fort Myers to play Bishop Verot, where we came up short and where our season ended.”
With this past year behind him, Weisz is looking forward to an even better senior season ahead.
“I can’t wait for this next year to lead the offensive line with my fellow senior lineman Joey Schmidt,” Weisz said. “You can look forward to complete domination on the line of scrimmage from me and the offensive line. You will see us winning as many games as possible with the team. It’s gonna be a great season, no doubt. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
