FORT LAUDERDALE – Another big name from our area has decided to take his talents to Broward County.

Earlier today, offensive lineman Gunnar Hansen announced on his Twitter page that he’s set on leaving American Heritage (Delray Beach) for St. Thomas Aquinas. The impact player kept it succinct in his game-changing post.

The junior standout, who was most recently ranked as our No. 2 offensive lineman from the 2021 class, will be pairing up with linebacker Jordan Kolnick as two of our Palm Beach County players at St. Thomas Aquinas this upcoming season.

In all honesty, this should come as no surprise by now. Simply put, our high school football players want to win a state title, and some of them feel that they must move on from Palm Beach County to do so.

“I just want an opportunity to compete with the best,” Hansen said of the Raiders. “I want to win a state championship.”

In addition to that, Hansen currently has no offers on the table. Expect his situation to change in the not-too-distant future at St. Thomas Aquinas.

As a junior for the Stallions, Hansen tallied 30+ pancake blocks and allowed just one sack. This is remarkable, considering the fact that American Heritage used three different quarterbacks due to a variety of injuries at different points throughout the season (senior starter Zachary Bohannon, freshman sensation Dylan Rizk, and sophomore athlete Tavares Parker).

For his efforts, Hansen was picked by the Sun-Sentinel as an All-County First Team offensive tackle for small schools in Palm Beach County.

Hansen does have the size that college coaches want in an offensive lineman. He’s currently listed at 6-foot-4, 295 pounds.

“I just want to go to the best place to help go to college for football,” Hansen said.
