JUPITER – In a game meant to shine the talent of some of the area’s brightest seniors, Palm Beach Central athlete Gen’Taris Oliver was the one who stole the show.

Oliver – who holds very few offers from colleges, likely because of his small stature – finished the Palm Beach County All-Star game with three touchdowns on offense and an interception on defense. His performance on offense earned him the American team’s Offensive MVP in their 30-6 win over the National team.

“It feels great to win it,” Oliver said. “I have never won MVP. I have never won MVP for anything in my life.”

Oliver’s first touchdown came right before the end of the first quarter, when Seminole Ridge quarterback Kaimyn Castilla connected with Oliver on a fade in the corner of the end zone. The touchdown tied the game at 6-6 after Royal Palm Beach running back Kenel Beaubrun gave the National team the lead on a rushing touchdown from a few yards out.

With just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter, the American team took the lead when Forest Hill defensive back and current Middle Tennessee State commit Darius McClendon intercepted Cardinal Newman quarterback Ethan DiBerardino’s pass for a touchdown. The play was a critical part in McClendon capturing the Defensive MVP for the American team.

“Once I caught the ball, I was like ‘get to the touchdown’,” McClendon said. “I had to score.”

Just a minute after the McClendon interception for a touchdown, Olympic Heights wide receiver Jack Coulson’s 88-yard catch and run helped set up a nine-yard touchdown catch for Oliver for his second of the game.

In the fourth quarter, Castilla and Oliver connected for a third touchdown, giving the American team a convincing 27-6 lead. Later in the quarter, the American team would add a field goal by Palm Beach Central kicker Tanner Nairn.

The American Team’s 30-6 win marks the second consecutive All-Star game win for Olympic Heights head coach Baz Alfred, who led the American team to a 12-0 win just a year prior.

“I have a lot of fun doing [the Palm Beach County All-Star Game],” Alfred said. “The guys are amazing. They have been coached by amazing head coaches throughout the season.”
