DELRAY BEACH – Brandon Schabert is playing no games at this time.
Tonight was the night for the American Heritage (Delray Beach) incoming senior wide receiver to make a life-changing decision, and he did it by shutting his recruiting down for good. He went with FAU to stay close to home.
Our No. 1-ranked wide receiver and No. 5 overall player in Palm Beach County gave thanks to those who helped him throughout his college recruiting process.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for all the gifts he has given me,” Schabert said on his Twitter post tonight (July 22). “Without Him, none of this would’ve been possible. I want to thank my parents for their continued support with my academic and athletic journey. I am thankful for all my past/present coaches and teammates. I have made many relationships that will last a lifetime. I want to give a special shout out to my Florida Fire family for all their support and brotherhood.”
Schabert (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) chose FAU over the likes of Kentucky, Syracuse, FIU, Kent State, Southern Miss, Army, and Bryant. He received a total of 10 offers.
The Florida Fire 7-on-7 standout receiver got a big boost in his recruiting process earlier in the offseason. It started by his decision to join the venerable offseason program and continued with his transfer move from Seminole Ridge to American Heritage (Delray Beach).
In addition to all this, Schabert has been selected as a Sports Illustrated All-American candidate, an honor that was earned by only two players who are currently on a Palm Beach County team roster – new Palm Beach Lakes defensive back Winsome Frazier is the other one.
As a junior, the shifty speedster helped lead his team to a surprise berth in the Class 7A playoffs this past year. He had at least six touchdowns as a junior, including two rushing scores in the postseason against Mitchell.
It can be argued that Schabert was the most dynamic player on offense for Seminole Ridge, as evidenced by the fact his impact was even felt by the times he blocked for other players. In short, he can change the game with or without the ball.
These attributes are what FAU will be looking to see from Schabert over the next several years ahead.
