WEST PALM BEACH – Oxbridge Academy’s playoff run last season was stopped by the same team it will face Saturday (Dec. 9) in the Class 3A state championship game.
The Thunderwolves have been the team to beat all year long after posting a 10-1 record thus far. They suffered their only loss to Pennsylvania powerhouse Archbishop Wood way back on Aug. 25.
Oxbridge Academy is a team that can put points and in bunches. Throughout the 2017 season, the Thunderwolves have outscored their opponents, 421-53.
Meanwhile, the ‘Wolves defense can put the clamps on any offense in the country. The most points they have given up in a game thus far is 14.
Charles “Gio” Richardson plays quarterback for the Thunderwolves, and he’s one reason as to why Oxbridge can score in bunches.
Richardson has completed over 50 percent of his passes, racking up 1,306 passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns in 11 games played. The dual-threat quarterback has also racked up 442 rushing yards on 77 carries.
Revenge may be on the mind of the Thunderwolves, as their 30-13 loss in last year’s 3A regional final to the Lions has stung them to the core.
When asked if there’s a revenge factor motivating the Thunderwolves, head coach Brendan Kent chimed in on the matter.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to play these guys (Chaminade) again after they knocked us out,” Kent stated. “We just got to play better than we did last year. Talk about revenge, it is what it is. We just got to get a win.”
Richardson is very excited about the 3A state championship game. He feels as if Oxbridge Academy has something to prove in this matchup.
When asked how important it is bring a state championship back to Palm Beach County for Oxbridge Academy, Richardson kept it succinct.
“I want to bring it back to the 561 to show everyone that Oxbridge is the best team in the state,” he stated.
Oxbridge Academy (10-1) will face off against Chaminade-Madonna (10-2) at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
