WELLINGTON – Palm Beach Central asserted its dominance in a 52-10 victory over Wellington to claim its third straight Wellington Cup.
To say that Palm Beach Central has something to prove at this point in the season would be an understatement. The Broncos (3-1; 1-0 in District 9-8A) have outscored their opponents 163-17 in the past three weeks.
Since the shutout loss to Atlantic in Week 1, Central has woken up. It was apparent in this Wellington Cup matchup that it has figured some things out to come together as a team and have complete games.
Palm Beach Central would get started with an interception by Jesus Santiago that set up a 22-yard pass from Michael Moreland to Charles Stewart.
Wellington’s first score would come on a 15-yard field goal. The Wolverines would then come on strong in the late in the first, as athlete Mark Antony-Richards would save a near touchdown by stripping the ball loose for a fumble recovery.
Richards would then break out on a 65-yard run for a touchdown to make the game 10-7 in favor of Wellington early in the second quarter.
Central’s Mr. Excitement Gen’taris “Spot” Oliver scored on a 30-yard pass to give the Broncos a 14-10 lead. Kicker Tanner Narin would make a 35-yard field goal on an ensuing drive to give Central a 17-10 lead.
Central’s final touchdown before the half would come on a 60-yard pass from quarterback Anarjahe Douriet to De’angelo Pompey to make it 24-10.
The struggles would continue for Wolverines as they started the second half with an interception to Broncos defensive back Akeem Dent.
The second half would go on to be all Palm Beach Central, as Moreland hooked up with Bryan Robinson for a 50-yard touchdown pass.
Another score came on a Douriet 30-yard pass to Kaishawn Curry. Then Oliver would score his second touchdown of the night by scooping up a short punt and scatting 30 yards for a touchdown, which pushed the Broncos to a 45-10 at the end of the third quarter.
Central’s final score of the night would come on a 30-yard pass from Douriet to Robinson for his second touchdown of the night. Its defense would seal the game on a interception from defensive back Arthur Gray Jr.
“I’m not surprised by our performance at all,” Palm Beach Central head coach Tino Ierulli said. “It’s because of the talent level we have and the way they are coming together as a family.”
Palm Beach Central has something good going on right now. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.
