The Florida Panthers emerged victorious with a 5-4 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. Brad Marchand played a major role in today’s game, with the game-winning goal in overtime.
The Panthers started strong with Sam Bennett opening the scoring. The Oilers responded with two quick goals, Kane and Bouchard both scoring to take a 2-1 lead. However, Florida came back with Jones scoring late in the period. Draisaitl then put the Oilers ahead 3-2 before the Panthers’ comeback.
In the second period, the Panthers played more aggressively, hitting harder and controlling the puck better. With two more Panthers goals, Aaron Jones contributed a crucial goal to keep the Panthers in the hunt, while Dylan Kulikov’s timely scoring helped maintain momentum. Then, unexpectedly, Perry tied the game for Edmonton with just 18 seconds remaining in the last period.
In the second overtime period, Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal with a perfectly executed play. It was his second goal of the night, and when interviewed after the game, he admitted that he couldn’t even remember it and that his mind went blank.
The Panthers played strong defense; the team’s defense shined, with great shot-blocking and smart positioning. They kept the Oilers’ scoring chances low, even though Edmonton fired 46 shots at the net. The Panthers’ win in Game 2 evens the series at 1-1.
