LAKE WORTH – Dimarco Augustin is a player to watch in Palm Beach County.
As the younger brother of Park Vista legend and former Miami (Fla.) safety Marques Gayot, he knows he has some big shoes to fill. But Augustin is not worried about that in any way.
The Cobras 2019 two-way player is focused on building his own legacy. He wants to be all he can be, and so much more.
“Well right now I’m trying to a better player than he was in high school,” Augustin said of Gayot, who fielded scores of FBS (Division I) offers before ultimately signing his letter of intent with Miami (Fla.) in 2014. “He really showed me how to perfect my craft. And by watching him play, I learned a lot about how to play my position.”
In his junior season at Park Vista, Augustin (No. 58; New Era Prep Top 100) recorded solo tackles (five assists), three TFL (tackles for loss), and two sacks, which amounts to 35 total tackles. He also had three quarterback hurries and one pass breakup as a defensive back.
Augustin also had his own shining moment on the field for Park Vista. It came in Week 2 against West Boca Raton (27-21 win), when he lifted his squad with a big defensive hit that helped the Cobras come out on top.
“The hit really energized the whole team to win the game,” the 6-2, 195-pound safety said. “My confidence was boosted because that made me feel like I could tackle anyone. I don’t fear anybody on the field now.”
Gayot opened up about his younger brother’s successful development at Park Vista.
“Things I learned from being at Miami, I try to teach him,” Gayot said. “You can actually see him implement the techniques I give him on the field, such as defeating blocks and reading the offense. One thing I’m impressed with the most is his open field tackling. He has grown tremendously from seeing him from his freshman year to now.”
With fall football practice beginning in less than two weeks, Augustin is mentally and physically preparing himself for what will be the most pivotal several months of his young life. He’s excited for the journey ahead.
This is important because the Park Vista standout is looking for his college recruiting process to take off at some point. He has two offers from Stetson and Arkansas Baptist, but more can be on the way with looks from the likes of Wake Forest and Air Force.
“Both schools are on the rise and getting better,” Augustin said briefly about his two offers.
From the recruiting process to the field, Augustin would like to have a strong highlight film to show college coaches. His goals this season are to have at least seven interceptions and help Park Vista win the District 10-8A title, something that actually happened during his sophomore year in 2016.
“I want to see aggressiveness from him,” Gayot said enthusiastically about Augustin. “He’s starting to grow and gain weight. He’s taller than me now, and he knows he’s one of the biggest guys on the field. Me and Snatch talk about it all the time. He has to use his size, and he will do exactly that this year. So basically being more physical is his main goal, and I know he can do it too.”
One of last season’s best moments at Park Vista was when fellow 2019
standout and Pahokee product Arthur Gray deflected a Miramar pass to secure a monumental upset road win in the first round of the Class 8A playoffs. The Cobras (No. 8 seed; Region 3-8A) had a wire-to-wire lead in their 28-20 triumph over the Patriots (No. 1 seed).
Park Vista, led by head coach Brian Dodds, has consistently been a team of overachievers for the past several seasons. It’s a testament to its team-based culture, where no one person is more important than the entire group.
“The whole coaching staff is dedicated in what they do, like coming every morning to workouts and coming to every practice to get us better in football and even life,”
Augustin said. “My teammates put in so much work everyday in the weight room and practice. I see all of us getting better every day.”
We’ll be closely following Augustin’s growth and recruiting process from
now until the day he officially signs his letter of intent with a college next year. We wish him the best from this point forward.
