FORT LAUDERDALE – Pine Crest School senior volleyball player Maddie Fowler has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play volleyball for Rice University in 2019-20.
“Maddie is a powerful hitter with incredible athletic ability,” said Albert Sturgeon, Pine Crest School’s volleyball program head. “That put together with her passion for the game makes her an unstoppable force.”
Fowler played in the middle hitter position for the Pine Crest girls’ varsity volleyball for four years. She was a first team All-County selection last year by the Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel.
“We congratulate Maddie on signing an early NLI with Rice University this morning,” said Jeff Johnson, Pine Crest School athletic director.
“Getting to this point requires years of hard work and commitment, as well as maintaining a balance between a challenging academic workload and athletic conditioning, practices, and games.”
Johnson would expand.
“We are extremely proud of Maddie and look forward to celebrating her in our recognition event in February with fellow Pine Crest Class of 2019 Panthers who commit to their futures as collegiate student-athletes.”
Fowler will be joining a Rice Owls team that is loaded with talent and currently holds a 24-6 record and is NCAA Tournament bound for the fourth time in school history after sweeping FIU to become Conference USA Champions.
Seniors who receive Letters of Acceptance will be announced in February 2019.
