Pre Snap Preview: #8 Miami vs Cal Berkley

Berkley, CA.- Another weekend of Miami Hurricanes’ football is upon us!

This weekend, the #8 ‘Canes travel to Berkley, California for face off against the Cal. Golden Bears. The Hurricanes are currently preparing to travel over 3,000 miles across the country, and there’s a lot of buzz surrounding this game. 

First off, this is the first ever edition of College Gameday hosted by Berkley. Miami’s entering this game at 5-0 (1-0 ACC), alongside one of the nation’s top offenses and defenses. Cal. is entering this week at 3-1 (0-1 ACC) with the nations’ leading defense in interceptions. 

Air Raid offense vs Lockdown defense, let’s break it down

#8 Miami 

The Hurricanes’ offense is on a generational run. Miami’s offense has totaled 2,928 total yards over the first five games, which is 73 yards more than the 2019 LSU team (2,855) during the same sample size. The U has been the nations most explosive offense every week, averaging well over 500 yards of total offense per game. 

QB Cam Ward has been a breath of fresh air for the ‘Canes. Ward currently has 1,782 yards in the air (4th all CFB), and leads the country in touchdowns with 18. Cam Ward’s dominance has propelled the Hurricanes’ receiver room into elite status, as WR1 Xavier Restrepo is currently top 20 in receiving yards (422) and top 10 in touchdowns (5). 

California

California has been headlined by a lock down defense. The Golden Bears’ defense has been lights out to begin the season, allowing just 12 points per game, and lead the nation in interceptions with 10. Star defensive back Nohl Wiliams leads the country with 4 interceptions, alongside 3 pass breakups.

Offensively, quarterback Fernando Mendoza has a lot on the line tonight. Mendoza, a Miami native, is looking to prove to the world why he should’ve never left the Crib, by upsetting the U. Mendoza currently holds 892 passing yards and 5 touchdowns on the season. Cal’s leading receiver has been NyZiah Hunter who has 14 catches, for 182 yards 4 touchdowns.
