WEST PALM BEACH – Berean Christian (0-5) and Miami Country Day (0-4) will duke it out for their first victory of the year.

This was originally a home game for Berean Christian. But it turned into an away game due to Hurricane Ian disrupting plans.

It was also going to be senior night for the Bulldogs.

Berean Christian has not won a game since the fall season of 2019, when head coach Mario Jackson and the Bulldogs made a magical 5-5 run and went 2-0 in their district to clinch a playoff berth. They went all the way to the second round of the SSAC postseason.

Berean Christian has only two seniors on its squad – Nathan Arevalo and Ormond Russell. As you can imagine, this team has a very young unit that will eventually come into its own.

Eighth-grader Jermonty Kimbrough Jr. has been a bright spot for the Bulldogs. He has proven that he can put the team on his back if need be.

Kimbrough has 354 rushing yards to date, averaging over six yards per carry.

Kimbrough’s best game this season came against St. Edward’s (Vero Beach), where he was name MaxPreps Offensive Player of the Game, finishing with 24 carries for 200 yards and one touchdown.

Bulldogs sophomore Micah Kemp (team-leading receiver) and junior Dominic Mastrogiacomo will be names to look out for as well. Kemp leads the team with 544 all-purpose yards, while Mastrogiacomo is right behind him with 220 all-purpose yards.

Freshman Roshiloh Richards and sophomore Mcowens Innocent will be players to watch on defense as they are the Bulldogs’ leading tacklers.

Meanwhile, Miami Country Day has been rebuilding its program in recent years as it has only won three games since 2019.

Although the Spartans have not captured a win this season, they have been getting progressively better each week.

Day has put up 30 points in the last four contest. The most recent progress happened in Week 4 against Mourning (North Miami) in a 27-14 battle where the Spartans held Mourning scoreless for two quarters.

Points on offense have been hard to come by for the Spartans, who are seeking to be more consistent as a team by starting games faster.

The Spartans are tough up front with their defensive line play. They are young, but they are not a team to be slept on.

Head Coach Chris Polite will have his guys ready come Saturday.

On the other hand; Jackson and the Bulldogs are looking to turn things around Saturday against Miami Country Day and come back to West Palm Beach with a win.

The kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in Miami on Saturday, Oct. 1.
