EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. – Since putting the pads on at practice on Monday the Giants have been quickly establishing first and second team squads, with most names being solidified there are still some names bouncing around between the first and second teams.

The First Team

Starting off in the scorching hot summer weather in North Jersey, we got to see some impressive scrimmage work between the first team offense and defense. The Giants look to have a lot of trust in their first round draft pick Malik Nabers, as he was once again put up against Don’Tae Banks, showing that this rookie has really proven himself in the short few months he’s been here.

Daniel Jones had some really good looks on offense today but also had his unfortunate moments as he did throw an interception during the redzone situation drills. However he made up for it by getting a great look to Nabers and a big catch from Jalin Hyatt.

Devin Singletary had another great outing, the FAU alum and Palm Beach County native continuing to prove his stuff on the field for his new team having a great outing during running back drills and even scoring a touchdown during scrimmage. It looks that Singletary will be easily securing the starting spot.

On defense, Brian Burns looked great, especially after an injury scare on Monday left him limited reps that day. It’s going to be very hard for opposing offensive lines to try and contain not only Kayvon Thibideoux and Dexter Lawrence but now adding a healthy Burns to the mix will make it even more difficult.

Cor’Dale Flott is another name that popped up a lot during practice today, Flott had a good amount of first team reps and even locked up the rookie Malik Nabers.

The Second Team

The second team offense looked good today, the chemistry between the players is definitely there and the players understand the playbook and their roles. One big instance of this was the Drew Lock and Wan’Dale Robinson connection. Robinson is definitely one of the in-betweens at camp, he’s gotten plenty of first team reps but he’s also been sent to the second team and special teams at times.

Another player to look out for recently has been Elijah Riley, the Army alum had a great practice yesterday and because of that actually ended up with more reps today at safety, a position the Giants will be looking to figure out as they lost Xavier Mckinney to the Packers in Free Agency.

The running back competition has also been heating up amongst the second team members. While Singletary obviously looks to be the starter, the backups are all showing close competition to who will get the RB2 spot. Today, Eric Gray, Dante “Turbo” Miller, and Jacob Saylors all put on a good show during second team reps.

Concerns?

The Giants have way too many receivers on their camp roster and unfortunately some of the guys are suffering from the lack of reps even if they’re grouped into the second team. Some notable names would be Isaiah Hodgins and Darius Slayton who were the two most productive receivers on the Giants roster last season and they’ve barely been getting any good reps in at practice.

Another concern is still the offensive line, while Andrew Thomas looked good in practice the rest of the line still was carrying a little slack and it was evident during the scrimmages as we saw all three quarterbacks, Jones, Lock, and DeVito scramble at times and force themselves to rush the ball themselves.

There’s still plenty of camp left and the preseason for the Giants to figure out their issues, if they can get these minor infractions changed, then things should be smooth going into opening day.
