One of Florida’s top quarterbacks is off the board, and it is a big get for an Ivy League program.
Champ Smith, a Cocoa Beach standout, has committed to Harvard ahead of a busy summer of official visits. The Crimson beat out schools like Purdue, Rutgers, Minnesota, and North Carolina. With Smith ranked as the 84th quarterback in the 2027 class, it would be Harvard’s highest-rated commit in program history.

Smith chose the Crimson over P4 Offers like UNC, Purdue and Rutgers. Recorded 7,000 yards and 70 TOTD in career. Smith is the highest rated QB recruit in Harvard history

In his career, Smith has 7,000 all-purpose yards and 70 total touchdowns. At Cocoa in 2025, the quarterback threw for 2,350 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding a touchdown on the ground as well. In 2024, Smith threw for 618 yards and eight touchdowns in four games, which was preceded by 1,974 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air in 2023.
Smith, when in the pocket, displays impressive pocket presence and footwork. He consistently gets through his reads and lets the ball rip once making a decision, rarely hesitating to make throws. Smith does not just display arm strength, but touch and layering ability in all the different areas of the field. And while not being the fleetest of foot, Smith has shown the ability to extend plays and pick up yards as a runner when needed.
If they can hold onto him throughout the remainder of the 2027 recruiting cycle, Smith is a player who could keep things rolling at a high level for the Harvard offense. Whether as an underclassman or a few years into his tenure, the standout quarterback could be called upon to replicate the production of Jaden Craig, who has since moved on to TCU. Regardless of when he steps onto the field, though, Smith is a great get for the Crimson, and Harvard is a great landing spot for Smith.
