CORAL GABLES – It has been revealed that Miami Hurricanes graduate transfer quarterback D’Eriq King has torn his ACL.
According to the University of Miami and Hurricanesports.com, King has sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will undergo surgery at the UHealth Sports Medicine Institute at The Lennar Foundation Medical Centre.
A timetable for King’s return will be determined after surgery. However, he is expected to be available for the beginning of the 2021 season.
In 11 starts, King threw for 2,686 yards with 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback also rushed for 538 yards and four scores.
King’s pass completion rate of 64.1 percent is the second-best single-season completion percentage in school history.
“We are obviously disappointed for D’Eriq, but we know he is in great hands with our medical staff,” Miami coach Manny Diaz said in a statement. “D’Eriq is the leader of this football team and we know that he will approach his rehabilitation with the same tenacity that he has approached every facet of his game since he arrived on our campus. We can’t wait to see him back on the field leading our team in August.”
King’s injury occurred in the second quarter of Tuesday’s Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma, when he was making a run on a play, his right knee buckling in the process.
“Thanks for all the texts and calls,” King posted earlier today on his Twitter account. “I’ll be fine.”
