WEST PALM BEACH – The Class of 2019’s best quarterback was thought to be the next starting signal-caller for Palm Beach Central.
But things have changed over the past several weeks for Gio Richardson.
A hard verbal commit to FAU, he has had trouble finding a home to play his final year of high school football since the announcement of Oxbridge Academy suspending the 2018-19 football season due to low roster numbers.
Richardson will now take the field for Dwyer, a team that has been struggling to find a quarterback after playing four different quarterbacks in its spring game and leaving it with more questions than answers about the most significant offensive position.
The 6-1, 195-pound quarterback will have an arsenal of offensive weapons, starting with Dwyer’s offensive line being led by fellow 2019 standout Ronald Folkes. He’ll also have at least a trio of running backs in 2019 rising stars Cedrick Tucker, Robert Armes, and Reggie Gadson.
Richardson will be joining former Oxbridge Academy teammates Anatavious Lane (2019 defensive back; FAU verbal commit), James Meeks (2019 running back; FAU verbal commit) and Da’Quan Thomas (2019 offensive lineman) at Dwyer for the upcoming season.
It’ll be interesting to see what value that Richardson will add to a loaded Dwyer roster, which will be a heavy favorite to reach the Class 7A state finals this year.
