TOLEDO, Ohio – Malik Rosier continues to prove why the Miami Hurricanes see him as their starting quarterback.
The fifth-year senior signal caller accounted for five touchdowns as No. 21 Miami (2-1) scored a glass-shattering 49-21 win over Toledo on Saturday (Sept. 16). He was 13-of-23 passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns, while adding three rushing touchdowns on eight carries for 80 yards.
Rosier is definitely gaining his confidence back as a quarterback, especially given the fact he has committed no turnovers in the last two games. He’ll need that and probably more, as Miami will take on suddenly red-hot FIU (2-1) in its next game Sept. 22 (3:30 p.m.) at Hard Rock Stadium.
Here’s a breakdown of Rosier’s five scores against Toledo:
1. 5-yard touchdown run with 8:11 left in the first quarter (Miami up 7-0)
2. 38-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeff Thomas with 12:27 left in the second quarter (Miami up 14-0)
3. 2-yard touchdown run with 2:56 left in the second quarter (Miami up 21-0)
4. 5-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Lawrence Cager with 37 seconds left in the third quarter (Miami up 35-21)
5. 37-yard touchdown run with 12:18 left in the fourth quarter (Miami up 42-24)
In three games this season, Rosier has accounted for 10 touchdowns (five pass, five rush). He needs 22 touchdowns accounted for in the next 10 games to break his own single-season record of 31, which was set last year.
Next game for No. 21 Miami: Home vs. FIU on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Hard Rock Stadium (3:30 p.m. kickoff)
