WEST PALM BEACH – In hopes of improving his overall stock, Matthew Shannon made a decision for his upcoming senior season.

The 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback announced on his Twitter account this past Friday (June 26) that he will transfer from Glades Day to Cardinal Newman.

“I’m just trying to put myself in the best position for college,” Shannon said.

Shannon accounted for at least 6 touchdowns this past season for Glades Day, which finished with a 2-7 record in 2019.

“At Glades Day, I ran the ball on quarterback runs most of the time. I didn’t get to throw as much as I wanted to because we were a run-heavy offense,” Shannon said. “At Newman, I’ll be able to showcase my arm more and I’ll be able to get more exposure.”

In the offseason, Shannon won quarterback MVP honors at T48 Football Camp in Fort Lauderdale this past February. He also received a nomination to play in the 2020 Offense-Defense National All-American Game.

And when Shannon’s senior season starts at Cardinal Newman, he’ll get to display his level of talent with the likes of Aaron LaMartiniere (2021), Richard Vincent (2021), Domenic Fusca (2022), and Vinkevus Pierre (2023). He and his new teammates will be led by new Crusaders head coach Daniel Burack, who will be taking over for previous head coach Joe Molina.

“They’re running a spread, which fits my skill set,” Shannon said of Cardinal Newman. “And with my abilities, I feel like I’ll be able to light it up.”

Pierre is happy to have Shannon on the team.

“Welcome to the family Matthew,” Pierre said on his Twitter account. “God has a plan for all of his Crusaders this year and just blessed us with a new Ferrari.”
