DAVIE – Braving the steady rain, a host of Miami Hurricanes fans made their way to Caneswear yesterday (Feb. 2) for a meet-and-greet with Travis Homer.
In his transition from college to the pros, the former Miami (Fla.) starting running back decided to team up with Caneswear for a special low-key autograph signing event that was meant to reflect his personality. The 2018 All-ACC second team and All-ACC academic selection has always been a well-rounded individual, and the fans were appreciative of the opportunity to see this in an intimate setting.
In efforts to keep it simple, Homer happily signed hundreds of photos and memorabilia in his likeness. He even took the time to have some small talk with everyone who came out.
There was one fan by the name of “Steve” who got Homer to reveal his favorite photo taken while he played for Miami. And there was a family from Boynton Beach who basked in the ambience of it all and reflected on how they became Hurricanes fans in the first place.
Chris Alleavitch shared his thoughts on Homer and how his college football experience turned out.
“Travis has had an amazing career at Miami,” Alleavitch said. “He’s a true Miami running back.”
Chris Alleavitch’s daughter, Anya, was also excited about coming to this event in Davie.
“My dad has always been hyped up about him,” Anya said about Homer. “It’s why we followed him at Miami. He’s a great player.”
Homer, who finished his collegiate career at Miami with 1,995 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns (2,400 total yards, 13 total touchdowns), reflected on yesterday’s experience at the Caneswear shop.
“It was awesome,” Homer said. “It was cool to take pictures with the fans and shake their hands, and everybody treated me well here at Caneswear.”
Brett Mitchell, the general manager for Caneswear, spoke on the fan-player engagement that took place at his facility.
“Travis has been phenomenal,” Mitchell said. “We had a great crowd with a lot of people here. We’re all big Travis Homer fans here, and we want him to do well on Sundays.”
It’s not known exactly when Homer will make his next appearance for the public. But you can be sure to expect him to perform at the University of Miami’s Pro Day, which will probably be sometime next month.
Stay tuned for further updates on Homer as he transitions from college to the pros.
