MIAMI GARDENS – Travis Homer continues to impress the Miami college football program and beyond.

In some extensive action during the second half of No. 14 Miami’s 52-30 home win over Toledo on Sept. 23, the Oxbridge Academy 2016 alum scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 12-yard run to the end zone. His accomplishment, along with an extra point by kicker Michael Badgely, came at the 5:36 mark of the third quarter, which gave the Hurricanes a 17-16 lead over the Rockets.

This opportunity came shortly after starting junior running back Mark Walton (11 carries, career-high 204 yards, TD; team-high 208 all-purpose yards) rolled his ankle earlier in the third frame. As a result of Walton’s injury, which turned out to not be serious, Homer was able to get more touches, finishing the game with eight carries for 32 yards and two touchdowns (78 all-purpose yards; third most on the team).

Homer was not made available to speak with reporters after the game, but Miami head coach Mark Richt took the time to shower some compliments on his performance against Toledo (3-1).

“He’s a very good runner and good pass protector,” Richt said. “He knows what to do. He’s tough. We trust him.”

Homer’s first touchdown started a strong second-half surge for Miami (2-0). Down 16-10 at halftime, the Hurricanes went on to score a whopping 42 points for the rest of the game.

This was the first game that Miami played since its season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 2, a span of 21 days. Hurricane Irma forced the cancellation of its Sept. 9 road game against Arkansas State and the rescheduling of its ACC tilt at Florida State from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7.

Miami’s next game will be played on the road at fellow ACC opponent Duke (4-0). The conference tilt is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff time on Friday, Sept. 29.

NOTES: Some of our Palm Beach County players stood out in this game, including the likes of junior linebacker Charles Perry (four tackles; tied for third-most on the team), sophomore linebacker Zach McCloud (two tackles), freshman defensive end Jonathan Garvin (two tackles), and freshman safety Amari Carter (two tackles). Senior offensive lineman Kc McDermott has started his 23rd consecutive game, most among all active players for Miami.
