Ft. Lauderdale, FL.- After three weeks of hard work and preparation, the spring football season is finally underway!

During tonight’s (5/16) Cardinal Gibbons spring jamboree, we were treated to three games between South Florida’s elite teams. Tonight’s jamboree featured the host Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs (2-0 on the night), the Palm Beach Central Broncos (1-1 on the night) and the Spanish River Sharks (0-2 on the night).

The rules: Each team played two matchups broken up as two halves. Running clock was activated for the duration of the game. No kickoffs or punt returns.

Let’s break down each matchup!

Game One: Spanish River vs Cardinal Gibbons

This matchup was dominated by the Chiefs, who showed poise and prowess in the air. Gibbons Quarterback Jayden Torres made all the right reads, combining for two touchdowns to Brian Williams and Trent DuBuc.

The River Boys struck back with a deep Blake Wallace touchdown, where Wallace broke numerous tackles en route to the endzone. After a failed two point conversion, Cardinal Gibbons took game one 14-6.

Game Two: Palm Beach Central vs Spanish River

This game was all Central. The Broncos dominated on the ground as Ze’Quan Wright recorded over 200 total yards and 2 scores.

Central opened the game with a Matis Gibson to Kamare Williams goal line fade touchdown on PBC’s first offensive play. Palm Beach Central took this game 21-0.

Game Three: Palm Beach Central vs Cardinal Gibbons

Finally the main event. For all the marbles. Which team would emerge unblemished on the evening. This game certainly did not disappoint as both teams brought their all. Cardinal Gibbons opened the game with another 75 yard strike from Torres to Williams. After that, both offenses were strong but the defenses were stronger.

Midway through the second half, Central birthed a drive that ended with a Jamarlo Rawls 5 yard rushing TD.

As time wound down, Gibbons drove to the red zone and kicked a chip shot field goal with less than two minutes remaining. PBC would only get two plays off, as Cardinal Gibbons won 10-7.
