MIAMI GARDENS- We’re back in Miami for day two of Dolphins training camp!

Today was the first day of padded practice, and it surely did not disappoint.

As practice began, and the team emerged from the facility, I noticed that running back Raheem Mostert was today’s recipient of the orange jersey.

The biggest storyline for me today was the return of offensive lineman, Terron Armstead. Armstead has been on the PUP list (hip) for the past five practices. Armstead was cleared to participate in practice, but did not dress in pads. The eleven year vet was seen on the sideline separately working on blocking drills with a coach.

During today’s scrimmage, quarterbacks Skylar Thompson and Mike White received most of the reps over Tua Tagovailoa.

Throughout the scrimmages it was very clear that the defense was going to dominate.

Early into the scrimmage, Skylar Thompson’s pass to Jaylen Waddle was intercepted by defensive back Justin Bethel.

Speaking of the Miami defensive backs, rookie Cam Smith has continued to impress throughout training camp. Smith was flying all over the field, breaking up passes intended for Tyreek Hill and Braxton Berrios.

Jaelan Philips has been unstoppable during camp. Philips has dominated the offensive line, recording numerous sacks and quarterback hurries throughout both practices that I’ve attended.

Offensively, the run game shined. Running backs Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed, and rookie Devon Achane all broke off big runs today. Despite being a “pass first” offense, Miami’s backfield continues to show out throughout training camp. The run game was so dominant that Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill were getting reps in onto designed jet sweeps.

Wide receivers Braxton Berrios, Erik Ezukanma and tight end Elijah Higgins had a stellar performance in the passing game today. Berrios showed off his elite speed over the middle, turning quick passes into large gains. Ezukanma and Higgins both showed off their jump ball abilities, after reeling in contested catches for big completions.

On the final play of scrimmage, Tua aired out a deep pass to Jaylen Waddle, that was beautifully broken up by safety Jevon Holland.

After practice, multiple players including Tua and Philips took time to show love to the fans and thank them for coming out and supporting.
