Recruiting fair flashback moment: RB/ATH Tyler Willis weighs his options

GREENACRES – It’s safe to say that a college decision is critical for anyone who wants a better life.

Such is the case for Tyler Willis, who took part in the Palm Beach County Football Recruiting Fair on Thursday evening (Feb. 20) at John I. Leonard High School.

Thanks to this event, the American Heritage outgoing senior running back/athlete now has a few options to choose from. He’s considering the likes of Methodist, Aurora, Concordia, and Keiser.

Of these aforementioned schools, it seems as if he spent the most time with Methodist at the recruiting fair.

“They have a good business program, and that’s what I plan on studying,” Willis said. “They also need a running back, so they said that I will have a chance to compete for a starting spot from Day 1.”

The Stallions senior offered his thoughts on how this recruiting fair went for him.

“I think that the college fair was a success,” Willis said. “I talked to a lot of coaches from great schools. Every school that I talked to at the college fair is currently in the mix.”

American Heritage assistant coach Henry Colombi, who spent time with college coaches on Wednesday (Feb. 19) at John I. Leonard High School, made his pitch on behalf of Willis.

“He achieved a lot on the field and has good size,” Colombi said of the 6-foot, 195-pound running back/athlete. “He can go to any Division II or Division III school he wants to.”

Willis, who finished his senior season with 1,182 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns, was recently selected as an All-State second team running back in Class 4A.

“It feels amazing,” said Willis, who scored two rushing touchdowns in perhaps his best game of the season against Benjamin in a 20-13 win. “It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized as one of the best players in arguably the best football state. But I still got a lot more to prove.”

The newly-minted All-State running back/athlete has made it clear that he’s not in a rush to make a decision. We can expect our No. 64 overall player in Palm Beach County to reveal his final college choice sometime in April.
