PALM BEACH GARDENS – From Inlet Grove to Palm Beach Gardens, it has been a high school experience to remember for Josue Charles to say the least.
Showing off his skills at defensive back, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior standout has earned his stripes by carving out a total of 161 tackles, six forced fumbles, and an interception in 19 games played over the past two seasons.
An asset in more ways than one at both Inlet Grove (junior season) and Palm Beach Gardens (senior season), Charles has decided to take his talents to Westminster College for the next level.
The soon-to-be Palm Beach Gardens 2021 alum announced his final college choice in a Twitter post last night (March 23).
“The environment is amazing,” said Charles, who was flown out to the New Wilmington (Pa.) campus facility this past weekend. “Everything there is genuine. Fell love with the program. Not to mention their game that week. They were up 42-0 over Bethany 10 minutes before halftime.”
Fellow Palm Beach Gardens senior defensive back Jakobe Hines, who transferred with Charles this past summer from Inlet Grove, had a lot to say about his good friend’s shining moment.
“I’m so proud of him,” Hines said “He’s like a brother to me. It’s been that way ever since he took me under his wings at Inlet. I can’t do nothing but be happy for him. This has been the goal for the past three years now.”
Hines touched more on the journey that he and Charles took together on the high school level.
“We took on the challenge to beat the odds,” Hines said. “With everyone doubting us, it just gave us more fuel to go harder. We been the underdogs ever since we decided to go to Inlet and also transfer to gardens, but it’s good to see underdogs come out on top. For the coaches at Westminster that believed in him, they won’t regret it. I promise you that. The kid is special and he’s going places. He’s my brother for life.”
Charles finished his senior season as our No. 4-ranked defensive back and No. 25 overall player in Palm Beach County. He was also our All-561 Public Schools Second Team Defense selection as a defensive back.
In addition to that, Charles played in the Palm Beach County High School Football All-Star Game this past January. He then went on to stand out in the Orange Bowl Showcase on Feb. 13 in Miami (40-yard dash time of 4.66 seconds).
