Palm Beach County, FL.- Ground and Pound baby!
Tonight’s New Era Prep Game of the Week featuring the #2 West Boca Bulls and the #5 Palm Beach Central Broncos boasted a full on assault on the ground.
West Boca entered tonight’s game red hot, following their come from behind victory against Benjamin, hoping to continue their county-wide dominance.
The Bulls did just that tonight, despite a very limited performance from workhorse 4-Star RB Javian Mallory, the offense didn’t skip a beat. West Boca’s talented running back room was on full display, headlined by a 85+ yard and 2 rushing touchdown performance from sophomore Jayden Lockhart. Lockhart punched in both scores during West Boca’s 21-0 first half run.
West Boca’s dynamic QB duo of Mason Mallory and Trey Moran showed off their impressive duel-threat abilities tonight, placing beautiful passes and extending plays with their legs on QB rushes. Moran waltzed into the end zone for an easy QB bootleg TD.
Unlike what most people like to assume, West Boca’s offense isn’t as run heavy as the past. Mallory’s development as a passer over the past few months is especially key to note, as he was methodically progressing through his reads, picking apart zones and coverages. Both Mason and Trey hit receivers Mark Hanniford and Zach Walls for huge gains, but Mallory connected with Jayden Elder midway through the third, extending the lead 28-0.
All in all, a very successful night for the West Boca offense. The Bulls’ dynamic offense was on full display, as the triple option was lethal. West Boca was able to connect for nice gains on beautifully designed tunnel screens, which appear unstoppable.
Defensively, West Boca did a great job neutralizing the big play potential from the opposing WR corps. 3-Star FAU commit DB Damon Allen and 2026 4-Star Jaydin Broadnax shut down the air raid, reeling in multiple PBUs. Allen secured his first interception of the year with a beautiful diving catch off an errant pass.
The Bulls front seven was easily the star of the defense tonight, as they were constantly partying in the backfield. Xavier Reid and Demetrius Geathers both recorded TFL’s, while Jamar Thompson knocked down another sack on the season.
PBC avoided the shutout as Chance Routson found 3-Star Boston College commit WR Nedrick Boldin for a 15 yard score as time expired in the third quarter.
West Boca advances to 2-0 to start the season, next week, the Bulls will enjoy a nice relaxing bye week.
Palm Beach Central falls to 1-1 on the year. Next week, the Broncos will travel to Spanish River to face the Sharks on Friday, September 6th. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 P.M.
