WEST PALM BEACH – It goes without saying that King’s Academy has a first class organization.
The level of attention to detail there is impeccable, all the way down to how the private school goes out of its way to make their student-athletes feel safe. Particularly in the COVID-19 era we are in now, it is critical that every step is taken to ensure the best possible outcome for every person involved.
One of those individuals in question is Sean Corrigan, an incoming senior wide receiver who wants to make the most of this upcoming fall football season. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver spoke on how his first week of organized practice went at King’s Academy.
“I like the safety protocols because they keep us safe without changing how we would play,” he said. “I like how we have face shields instead of having to wear masks.”
Corrigan loved the fact that he got to spend time in this ‘new normal’ period with his teammates.
“It was a great experience since I haven’t been practicing with everyone at the same time,” he said. “So it was good to be with my brothers, playing the sport that we love. I have learned that you cannot take any practice or workout for granted because you never know when it can be taken away from you.”
Corrigan touched on how his coaches have ensured total safety for him and his teammates in the midst of the pandemic.
“Our coaches have been doing their best with keeping our strength and conditioning up while we have had to social distance,” he said. “And we have done a great job with all the procedures so we can keep pushing forward as a team.”
With that said, Corrigan has benefitted in a way from the past offseason. He did receive an offer from Carthage College not too long ago.
“I got it in the mail on July 7,” he said. “Coach [Dustin] Hass was very nice when he was reaching out to me and wanted to stay in touch.”
What played a role in how Corrigan’s recruiting process started up was his production as a junior. In 10 games, he had 33 catches for 510 yards and 4 receiving touchdowns, while adding 46 total tackles, 1 blocked punt, 1 blocked field goal, and an 80-yard interception for a touchdown.
Corrigan’s best outing was in a Week 9 homecoming game against LaSalle, when he had 50 receiving yards and the 80-yard pick for a score in his team’s 44-8 win.
Though King’s Academy finished with a 5-5 record last season, Corrigan looked at it as a learning experience more than anything else.
“I think we have to not look at the past but always be prepared for our upcoming opponent,” he said. “Because our coaching staff has prepared our bodies, we have to mentally be ready for all the obstacles that come our way.”
For Corrigan’s senior season, he wants to have at least 600 receiving yards and first-team honors by multiple outlets. The offensive team leader also wants to see his team have an undefeated year and come out with a ring, if possible.
“I am excited that we got back to practice this week,” he said. “Big things for our team this year.”
