PALM BEACH GARDENS – Trevon Taylor is the most current local example of how to go after what one truly desires.

After being overlooked for quite some time due to his size – the senior is now listed at 6-foot, 175-pounds – the Dwyer quarterback finally broke through with a dream situation on the night of Oct. 14.

Taylor received his first Division 1 offer to Valparaiso, a situation that honestly did not look possible at times.

“I was very excited and called my parents right after I got off the phone with them,” Taylor said about the Thursday night experience with Valparaiso’s coaching staff. “It means a lot to me. This a big step in the right direction for my dreams to come true.”

Taylor reflected on his Division 1 offer talk with his mother, Nicole Vance.

“She was just happy and telling me ‘Don’t give up’ and stuff like that,” Taylor said. “She gave me a hug. It made her (my mom) cry.”

Trevon Taylor spoke on the fateful interaction with his father, Tim Taylor.

“He was just happy and surprised,” Trevon said of Tim’s reaction this past Thursday night. “I didn’t go see him, but if I would have seen him, he would’ve been happier.”

Dwyer head coach McKinley Rolle spoke on Trevon’s scholarship situation.

“He wanted that offer so bad,” Rolle said. “This was his dream.”

Rolle touched on what Trevon has to offer as a quarterback.

“Trevon wants to be great,” Rolle said. “He’s self-motivated and he wants to be coached. He has soaked up everything here…He’s a leader by raising everyone’s level around him. I haven’t had too many players like him in my coaching career.”

Trevon, who accounted for 3,200+ total yards and 19 total touchdowns as a junior at Palm Beach Lakes, now has four total offers in his possession. They come from Valparaiso, Graceland, Keiser, and St. Thomas.

“The kid is talented,” Rolle said. “There’s not too much he can’t do. He has a strong arm. He’s accurate. He’s tough. He has everything you’re looking for in a quarterback.”

Trevon’s senior season with the Dwyer Panthers will officially start on Saturday, Oct. 31.

In what will be a shortened season due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dwyer will have at least four games against Forest Hill (Oct. 31; 2 p.m. kickoff), Palm Beach Gardens (Nov. 7; 6 p.m. kickoff), Palm Beach Lakes (Nov. 14; 2 p.m. kickoff), and Suncoast (Nov. 21; 10 a.m. kickoff).

After a Thanksgiving bye week (Nov. 27-28), there could be three playoff games for Dwyer (Dec. 4-5; Dec. 11-12; Dec. 18-19). More information on the postseason will be released at a later date.

All four of Dwyer’s regular season games will be held at Jupiter Community High School in Jupiter.

“We’re happy to have him back,” Rolle said of Trevon, who is our No. 1-ranked quarterback and No. 16 overall player in Palm Beach County.

“He makes us so much better as a team, not only because of his ability, but also because of he works,” Rolle said. “He pushes himself no matter what. That’s a lot for a young man on the high school level.”

Trevon has a message for all of our area’s players – especially quarterbacks – in the Class of 2021.

“Keep working everyday,” Trevon said. “You never know what’s going to happen. God does everything for a reason. I’m still going to work even harder.”
