PALM BEACH COUNTY – After an unusual offseason with multiple curveballs, high school football in Palm Beach County is back in a limited format.
No public schools are playing in Palm Beach County this week. All games played this week will feature private schools.
The private schools began practicing on August 24.
AFTERNOON GAME: Berean Christian at Jupiter Christian – 4 p.m. kickoff
Jupiter Christian struggled last season, but seemed to pick up some valuable steam at the end of it. The Eagles picked up their first win of the season late last season, when they defeated Central Florida Christian.
Berean Christian picked up five wins last season and won a playoff game, so the momentum is definitely on their side.
Don’t expect Jupiter Christian to struggle like they did last season, so this game should be closer.
Prediction: 24-18 win for Berean Christian
NIGHT GAME: Cardinal Newman at Calvary Christian – 7 p.m. kickoff
Cardinal Newman enters the season with a new head coach in Daniel Burack, and it had a solid 2019 season with a berth in the Class 3A playoffs and a 7-3 final record. Calvary Christian finished last season with an eight-game winning streak and a win in the playoffs.
Cardinal Newman will keep it close, but Calvary Christian should pull out a close win.
Prediction: 27-21 win for Calvary Christian
NIGHT GAME: Bishop Verot (Fort Myers) at American Heritage (Delray Beach) – 7 p.m. kickoff
Like Cardinal Newman, American Heritage-Delray sees a new head coach in Brian Sheridan. The Stallions will have one of the county’s best quarterbacks in Dylan Rizk, who has wide receiver and FAU commit Brandon Schabert as his top target.
Bishop Verot is a strong team coming off a close loss to Tampa Jesuit a week prior.
Prediction: 21-17 win for American Heritage-Delray Beach
NIGHT GAME: Lemon Bay at King’s Academy – 7 p.m. kickoff
King’s Academy head coach Keith Allen is going to get his guys to play, and today should be no different. King’s Academy finished last season with a 5-5 record, and Allen will look to build off of that season with a stronger 2020.
Coming off a 3-8 season, Lemon Bay has a lot of room for improvement.
Prediction: 31-21 win for King’s Academy
