The Miami Dolphins were dealt a devastating blow Sunday, as running back Alexander Mattison’s 2025 season came to an abrupt end following a serious neck injury.
According to multiple sources, Mattison was injured during Miami’s matchup against the Chicago Bears and was taken by ambulance to a local Chicago hospital. The injury occurred in the second half of the game, when Mattison fell on his head and was out for the rest of the game.

Doctors determined the injury required urgent surgery, which was performed later that evening in Chicago. While the procedure was successful, sources confirmed that Mattison will miss the remainder of the season as he begins a lengthy recovery process.
With Mattison out, the Dolphins worked out veteran running back Jamaal Williams. Williams, who is 30 years old, had his best season in 2022 where he had 1066 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns with the Lions. He was with the Saints last season with a career low year. If he is signed, Williams will bring leadership and experience to the team in hopes to improve short yardage situations.
Dolphins are working out free-agent running back Jamaal Williams today.
