BOCA RATON – The Lake Worth Trojans played a second half to remember as they came back to beat the Spanish River Sharks.
Spanish River would jump out to a quick 5-0 lead after senior guard T. Mullins made a quick three-pointer and followed it with a layup.
The Sharks made shots from the inside and outside. The Trojans, meanwhile, would settle in and close the gap down to 21-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Sharks scoring would be slowed by the Trojans early in the second quarter as both teams began to settle.
Senior guard Marques Spann seemed like a blur once he entered the game, pushing the ball up the court and getting the ball to his teammates. The Trojans would still be down at halftime, but they were able to cut down the Sharks lead to 35-28.
Avery Brookes would become the equalizer for Lake Worth after halftime, as he made a huge three-pointer and followed it up with a steal that helped cut Spanish River’s lead to 39-37 halfway through the third quarter.
Lake Worth would use its momentum in the third and ultimately take its first lead of the night with a little under two minutes left. The Trojans took a 41-39 at that point and would extend it to 49-40 going into the fourth quarter.
The Trojans would surge in the fourth and go up by 10 points with a little under three minutes left in the game. Tyrik Blanc made a huge block that would shift the momentum of the game and get the Lake Worth crowd out of their seats.
With a minute and a half left in the game, the Trojans delivered a clutch play as a steal by Brookes would lead to Jay Medor scoring a wide open layup.
Tyrik Blanc was a catalyst all night as he scored 19 points in the game. Brookes added 15 points to fuel Lake Worth’s fourth-quarter surge.
This was essentially a game of two halves, as Spanish River would dominate the first half and Lake Worth would finish strong in the fourth quarter to score a 71-61 victory on the road.
