PALM BEACH GARDENS – As a two-sport athlete, Zane Coppersmith has a good amount of experience playing in big moments.
The Palm Beach Gardens senior did that in football, as he excelled primarily at the safety position as he caught multiple interceptions in six total games played. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound standout went on to earn a spot of the Sun-Sentinel’s All-County Second Team Defense and New Era Prep’s Honorable Mention list.
With that said, Coppersmith used his football time to gear up for baseball season, which officially started last month. He has helped the Gators start off with a blistering 5-0 record.
Coppersmith had a strong outing on his team’s Senior Night against Cardinal Newman at Joe Russo Field, as he pitched four scoreless innings and went 1-for-3 with a single in a 6-1 win on Tuesday (March 2).
“I was just looking foward to getting the win,” Coppersmith said. “Our team wanted to celebrate all of our seniors and how hard we have worked so far.”
And this past Friday night (Feb. 26), Coppersmith was 2-for-3 with a double, single, and walk in a 7-4 road win over Stoneman Douglas.
“It felt really good,” Coppersmith said of beating a highly touted Stoneman Douglas program. “It was a great team win and everyone did something to help. They are a good team and we should see them in the playoffs again.”
As one can see, Coppersmith plays a integral role in the success of this Palm Beach Gardens baseball team, which is currently the nation’s No. 5-ranked program, according to MaxPreps.
The right-handed pitcher and outfielder’s level of consistency has resulted in him receiving multiple college scholarships offers at this time.
We will closely follow Coppersmith’s progress throughout the season, as well as everyone one else with the Palm Beach Gardens baseball program.
