BOCA RATON- Spanish River keeps getting the job done.
After defeating Park Vista 28-20, the River Boys had numerous nominations for our weekly superlatives, including:
Team of the Week (Winner)
Coach of the Week: Ian Headley (Winner)
MVP: Wide Receiver, Blake Wallace (’25)
Offensive Player of the Week: Quarterback, AJ Truiolo (’24)
Spanish River second year head coach, Ian Headley has been one happy man throughout the first few weeks of the season. After going 1-9 in 2022, the River Boys completely flipped the script, starting the season off 4-0. His team has dominated on all sides of the ball throughout the first four games.
When asked about his thoughts on his program so far, Coach Headley said:
“I love how we found a way to win no matter what. We’ve handled adversity and found a way to fight and win.” Headley said. “Our goals are to simply get better week by week, playing more complete games on offense, defense and special teams.”
Truiolo and Wallace put on a clinic last week, solidifying themselves as one of the county’s top duos. In the Park Vista game, AJ Truiolo recorded:
245 Passing Yards
45 Rushing Yards
2 Passing Touchdowns
His performance at Vista brings Truiolo’s season total to 1,157 Yards (4th in Florida), 11 Touchdowns, 71% Completion.
Blake Wallace was the direct recipient of most of AJ’s passes, recording:
7 Receptions
128 Receiving Yards
1 Receiving Touchdown
55 Rushing Yards
1 Rushing Touchdown
When asked about their performances against Park Vista, as well as being named Team of the Week, AJ Truiolo and Blake Wallace said:
“Everyday is a blessing, I strive to get 1% better each day and get my guys better. Im blessed to be where I am with the people I’m involved with.” Truiolo said. “We came out victorious and pulled through as a team against Vista. Our 4-0 record is a testament to the work we’ve put in during the off season and every day during the season. We’ve been nothing but hungry. It’s truly a blessing and an honor to be recognized as the Team of the Week.”
“It’s such a blessing to be in the position that we are in right now. Coach Headley has been putting in work to flip this program around.” Wallace said. “I’ve seen this program at the very bottom, seeing it now was honestly shocking to see. We’ve grown as a team and cultivated a culture of winning that’ll be left long after we graduate.”
