The Miami Hurricanes recorded their 5th straight win on Tuesday night, improving their record to 10-2 (8-0 home) after defeating the Florida International (FIU) Panthers 98-81.
It was a game of adversity that Hurricanes coach Jai Lucas said was needed. Ending the first half shooting just 10% from 3 and tied up at 53 a piece, the Canes looked to true freshman Shelton Henderson who had the best game so far of his freshman campaign. Henderson ended his night with 30 points on 10-12 shooting (10-11 FT), adding 5 rebounds to that as well. Malik Reneau joined Henderson in the scoring column, adding 22 points (8-12 FG) of his own, as well as 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
“I think the way our team is built anyone can have a great night, and tonight it was me,” Henderson said post-game. “Some shots aren’t going to fall, so we just got to focus on the defensive end and not allow them to score as many points as they did…We just have to keep building off these wins.”

Miami would outscore FIU 55-38, continuing their second half dominance that seems to be an ongoing trend so far this season. Despite this, the ‘Canes are still trending upwards and look to make a name for themselves in the ACC this season.
The Hurricanes will be back in the Watsco Center this upcoming Sunday, December 21st, as they’ll host the North Florida Ospreys (2-8) at 4:00 on ACC Network.
