BOCA RATON – The St. Andrews Scots have an uber-talented underclassman who can be explosive in more ways than one.
Look no further than Matthew James, a Class of 2022 standout who had a very productive sophomore season.
In 11 games played, the 6-foot, 160-pound athlete recorded 1,400+ total yards and 13 total touchdowns on offense, while adding an impressive 11 interceptions on defense. He was a First Team Offense selection for the Palm Beach Post and a First Team Defense selection for the Sun-Sentinel.
One of the best performances this past season for James was against Boca Raton Christian in Week 3. He scored three touchdowns and caught two interceptions in a 53-20 home win for St. Andrews.
As a result of all this, James would go on to make school history by being the first player to earn a Power 5 scholarship offer. He currently has two from Penn State and LSU, with the most recent one coming this past Wednesday (April 1) from the defending national champion Tigers.
“It’s great for him (Matthew James), his family, and for the Saint Andrew’s football program,” Scots head coach Jimmy Robertson said. “If you are a good football player, colleges will find you. Only being a sophomore and playing at Saint Andrew’s has proved that. I have been telling everyone about him since he was in the eighth grade.”
Anwaar James expressed his excitement for his son’s historical accomplishment at St. Andrews. He did it by succinctly describing Matthew’s preferred style of play and production.
“When it’s time to get down to business, he’s a silent assassin,” Anwaar James said of Matthew. “He just goes out there and gets the job done.”
SIDE NOTE: Matthew James is part of our Class of 2022 Watch List. Expect him to have his best season yet as a junior this upcoming fall.
